Collection: Chronicles of Lormere//Submissions Chronicled by Ghasty Novaci and Jaa stood on the summit of Mount Joxynsa in the brisk evening air. They could see a nearby house from where they stood. This house was home to two very peculiar residents, whom at the time had been outside. Edya had been tending to an unhealthy tree, and Ahlogneir was perched nearby. They had turned to look in Novaci and Jaa's direction when the light had dispersed. Novaci was in obvious pain, and Edya saw this. Edya ran to assist Novaci but stopped short when she saw Novaci clearly. "Did you bring her here to kill me!" Edya yelled accusingly to Jaa. If looks could kill, Jaa would have been struck down by the glare Edya was giving him.
"Don't worry, I can't hurt you," Novaci said, "look at the snow around my feet." Edya looked down at Novaci's feet. The light snow around her feet wasn't melting. "How?" Edya questioned, surprised by the presence of snow around Novaci. "I'll tell you later, but first, I need medical attention," Novaci said. "I need to know what happened first before I can start treatment," Edya said. "She was inside of a meteorite when it burst open. The meteorite was at the bottom of Lake Xuwhyl when this happened. When it exploded, it left her vulnerable to the lake water surrounding it. The water caused this damage. Is that enough information?" Jaa explained. "You know I can't use the healing incantation, but I could try to create some treatment," Edya said, "bring her into the house." Novaci walked painfully towards the house. She reached the house and walked to a wooden cot in the corner of the room. She laid down on this cot. Edya stood nearby, lost in her thoughts. Edya thought hard for many minutes but couldn't think of anything. "I might have to use the healing incantation," Edya said turning towards Jaa. "You don't have to do this," Jaa responded. "I don't think I have a choice. Take care of Ahlogneir for me," Edya said. She turned towards Novaci and put her hands on her. "Gujap Novaci, ol chino ema puzdre aln enest!" Edya chanted sorrowfully. Novaci's patchy outer layer dissipated into nothingness. The healing would have been seen as joyous, had Edya not slumped to the floor. Jaa rushed to Edya, but it was too late. He watched as an Anisa Sytvolil carried her soul off. Jaa sat weeping next to her body which was cold in his hands. Novaci sat up and was silent for some time. After a half-hour of silence, Novaci gathered the courage to speak. "We should bury her," Novaci suggested. Jaa barely heard her above his weeping. He sniffled and nodded his head. He reached towards her face and closed her eyes which blankly gazed towards the ceiling. He put her arms under her limp body and picked her up. He carried her over to the cot where Novaci had previously sat. Novaci handed Jaa a sheet of cloth which she had found. He laid this over Edya's body and then they went outside. "Cazcon dvux pelfaril zo boyva!" Jaa chanted. Two shovels burst into existence and landed at his feet. Jaa handed a shovel to Novaci and they began to dig. Two hours later a suitable grave was dug. Novaci and Jaa carried Edya's body to the grave and lowered her into it. They then began to fill the grave back up. Jaa fashioned a grave marker from the two shovels. Ahlogneir was perched nearby while they did all these things. Once the grave was filled, Ahlogneir flew from his perch to the grave. The three remained there for several minutes until the somber atmosphere was interrupted by a burst of blinding light. Comments are closed.
